To keep its projected commuter rail fleet of 83 locomotives and 600 coaches operating efficiently, the client wanted to design and build a state-of-the-art heavy rail maintenance facility.

PROJECT SOLUTIONS

To provide mechanical construction services for a large state-of-the-art rail maintenance facility. The building has enough utilities to service a town of 10,000 and enough concrete for the foundations of those people's homes. The roof area alone spans nine acres. Seven miles of new track were installed on the 36-acre site. The length of the service and inspection area is equivalent to four football fields.

The $200-million Boston Engine Terminal is the MBTA's largest single construction contract ever.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is part of the Massachusetts Transit Authority. It provides commuter rail system services in the Boston area for more than 100,000 passengers daily.
