PROJECT SOLUTIONS
To help this client meet its objective, J.C. Higgins installed a complete mechanical system, started it up and demonstrated to the commissioning agent that it was operating according to specifications. HVAC rooftop equipment included air-handlers, exhaust systems and energy recovery units. The company also installed gas-fired boilers in the first-level mechanical rooms and dual temperature fan coils in individual suites. In addition, an internet-based direct digital control building management system allows the school to monitor the facility’s energy usage remotely and control room temperatures, especially during vacations and other periods when the rooms are unoccupied.
Time! That was the major challenge on this project. Yet J.C. Higgins overcame it and helped provide a successful ending. Though the project started later than expected, the facility had to be ready when students returned in the fall, so the end date could not be moved. To meet the demands of this fast-track schedule, J.C. Higgins did two things. First, depending on available work areas, the company’s site personnel increased their work hours from eight to 10 hours a day during the week and eight hours on Saturdays. In addition, based on the workload, the company put its subcontractors on an accelerated schedule to provide such critical project components as sheet metal, insulation, air and water balancing and the automated control system.
